Cadar
Meatpacking
Retail
New York, NY
The lighting design of Cadar’s new store in Manhattan’s Meatpacking District was developed around the jewelry designer’s vision of creating an immersive Cadar world, where nature, an essential presence in the objects she designs, extends into the architecture and lighting of the space. Custom chandeliers incorporating birds and feathers introduce natural motifs overhead, while the jewelry cases are conceived as columns representing trees, transforming the interior into an abstract landscape where the jewelry is discovered and experienced.
Lighting was conceived as an integral part of this environment, carefully integrated into the custom displays and architectural elements. Particular attention was given to how different qualities of light interact with gold and diamonds, enhancing the warmth and depth of the gold while revealing the brilliance and sparkle of the stones.
Through a process of testing and physical mockups, intensity, color temperature, and light distribution were carefully calibrated to create a refined balance between jewelry, materials, nature, and light.
