Kanna
Head Hi Lamp Show
Tribeca, NY
Kanna, the first in a series of wig lamps, opens a conversation between design and coiffure. As lighting designers, we have always been intrigued by the way that everyday objects acquire a persona - an identity that is fluid, changing over time.
The Kanna lamp inivites us to imagine such a persona, and even to restyle it. Kanna is named for the Japanese hairstylist who created her signature cut, sculpting the layers of pink and gray tresses to bring forth columns of light. Our project is an open collaboration that also involves the lamp's eventual owner: In caring for this design object through rituals of brushing and restyling, Kanna's persona will continue to evolve.
