STUDIO ATOMIC hosted a night inspired by the world of Giorgio de Chirico—a journey through light, shadow, and surreal atmospheres. For us, de Chirico was a lighting designer. Nothing is “natural” about the light in de Chirico’s paintings, and this is the key to their allure: he used light and shadow to create depth and tension in space, to blur the boundary between reality and fiction. Our party takes inspiration from this artist and his vision “to live in the world as in an immense museum of strange things.”

De Chirico’s paintings portray scenes that are at once familiar and strange piazzas illuminated by an otherworldly glow, crossed by deep and jarring shadows. These images would profoundly inspire the Surrealist movement (although de Chirico himself rejected this label).
