Summit Mill
Mixed-Use
Philmont, NY

Nestled in the heart of Hudson, New York, this former fabric factory—abandoned for over 30 years—is being reimagined as a dynamic cultural hub. The project honors the building’s industrial past while cultivating an inviting atmosphere that fosters engagement, creativity, and connection. Through a thoughtfully designed lighting intervention, the project reveals the raw beauty of the existing structure, enhances spatial narratives, and creates moments of warmth and intimacy.
At the foundation of the building, the lighting design highlights the strength and permanence of the original architecture. Soft, indirect illumination emphasizes the solidity of the stone and columns, anchoring the space while preserving its historic character. Floating platforms positioned between the columns are gently lit from below, creating a sense of weightlessness that contrasts with the building’s robust structure. To add depth and focus, concealed track heads are integrated within the wooden beams, providing discrete accent lighting that enhances the cellar’s materiality without overpowering its atmosphere. Wireless table lamps, carefully selected to blend seamlessly into the space, introduce an additional layer of warmth, reinforcing an intimate and inviting setting.``
